A Hydrogen Powered Scrubber Drier – The First of its Kind!

RCM logoWe have built the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell powered scrubber drier.

Based on our Metro 1303, this groundbreaking machine uses three fuel cells to charge the advanced battery system that powers this electric scrubber drier. The weight saving offered by removing the traditional battery amounts to almost 30% of the machine's gross weight. Combine this saving with the energy efficiency of the fuel cells and this scrubber drier illustrates the environmentally friendly nature of this technology.

Hydrogen fuel cells – how do they work?

Fuel cells produce electrical power quietly and efficiently without pollution. The fuel cells used in this Metro scrubber drier generate electricity using oxygen from the air and hydrogen from an on-board storage tank. Within the fuel cell these two elements react and combine to form water and generate electricity. This electricity is stored in an advanced battery system that powers the scrubber drier's motors in the traditional way.

Advanced technology

Built to prove the viability of powering a commercial cleaning machine using fuel cells, this Metro 1303 suffers no reduction in functionality. Being significantly lighter than its traditional counterpart it offers improved performance and reduced energy consumption.
